THE PLUS SIZE GIRL'S GUIDE TO WEARING DRESSES

Hello Sweet Sweet!!

To my curvy girl out there reading this post, convinced that you are bound by certain style guideline or limited to certain dress styles just because you are over a size 14? Get ready to change your mind.
Dressing for your shape takes patience and a lot of trying on clothes. Most people think they are limited when it comes to dressing for your body type but that’s simply just not true. Identifying and understanding your shape is about knowing what works for the largest and smallest parts of your body. Think of shape identification as a guideline to your best looks. Check out our post on how to know your body shape. The aim of this post is to help you enhance your curves. Below are just a few tips on how to look curvilicious and not grumpy.

Know your body shape.  In my own opinion, the very first step in dressing the big, bold and beautiful is to know your body shape. Check out our post on How to know your body shape. If you’re a rectangular shape, you may want to create shape with your clothes. If you have an hourglass figure, then you want to show this off. Pear shapes might want to stick to separates and choose clothes that balance out their silhouette.

Ensure proper fit. I know how tempting it is to hide your body in layers and oversize clothes or to squash your body into undersized clothing but these will only make you look bigger! The key to a flattering garment comes down to fit irrespective of your size. Don’t be afraid to wear fitted or figure hugging outfits, as these can often emphasize your figure.

Pick the right material. Avoid flimsy fabrics, which will highlight any bumps. Instead, pick materials with substance and structure; not only will they provide support, but that extra thickness will ensure your undies won’t attempt to take a sneak peek in the public of igwe mmadu

Wear the right under wears. Your bra is especially important. It has to fit to keep your bust up and eliminate unevenness in your silhouette that will only distract the eye. Making sure you’re wearing the right underwear can make all the difference in showing off your clothes. It’s all about getting the right foundations. If you use the proper bras and underwear your clothes will sit better, and you’ll feel much more comfortable and confident.

Use prints and details carefully to make the eye go up and down. Prints and patterns has been a source of confusion. Some say that plus size ladies should go for larger patterns and avoid small prints and vice versa. I personally think that any pattern can be worn as long it is worn in a way that will work for your figure. Vertical details however are your best friends.

Flaunt your asset. Have you got a favorite part of your body that you want to show off? It may be your toned legs, slim waist or curves; simply flaunt it. Make the most of colour by wearing it on the areas that you want to emphasize.

HOW TO GROW BACK YOUR EDGES

Hello Sweet Sweet!!

Talking about growing back your edges. You are probably one of those with rat chopped hair as I like to call it. Lolzzz. Receding hairline or Traction alopecia as oyibo people call it is a situation whereby you have very thin or no hairline close to your forehead due to excessive pulling(traction).

Some causes of Traction alopecia include:
  • Very tight ponytails
  • Tight braids, weaving, dreadlocks or extension (single) braids,
  • Weavon or wigs attached with glue
  • Barrettes that hold the hair tightly and are worn in the same position every day
  • Tight hairpieces
  • Tight headgear like cycling helmets that are worn frequently or for long stretches of time and tend to rub or pull repeatedly on the same area of hair
  • Repeated use of hair rollers
  • Repeated pulling of the hair with the hands (this is an emotional condition called trichotillomania)
https://i.imgflip.com/o21hj.jpg

There's more to this condition than hair simply breaking off. Instead, the constant tension in the affected area either pulls out the hairs' roots completely, or causes the follicles to become damaged. If this problem is not addressed, a point will come where the follicles no longer produce hair at all i.e permanent baldness

Here are few tips to grow your edges back

Give your head a break
Weaves can be your best friend or your worst enemy if you don’t learn to take breaks. A sew-in is a beautiful style, but rocking sew-ins all year round can strain your hairline causing missing edges. Stop fixing weave or braids or dreadlocks. Just give your hair some breathing space in preparation for the task ahead.  Covering up the thin edges may worsen the thinning, so forget the embarrassment and concentrate on getting back your edges rather than hiding the problem. You are not the first person with this problem and unfortunately you will not be the last

Massage your scalp
Scalp massages stimulate the skin and encourage the blood vessels to increase blood flow and boost circulation to the scalp and hair follicles. This increased circulation brings more nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles and may aid in hair growth. Which oils to use is less important than the actual act of massaging, and this can be done without oil, as the purpose is to encourage circulation.

Use hair treatments and oil
Rubbing the edges with oil or oil mixture treatments can also aid in re-growing hair in those areas. These treatments will reduce the damage on your edges by repairing the follicles and encourage hair growth. Natural treatment containing some of the following: Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Rosemary, Biotin, Ginseng, Moringa, Lavender, Peppermint, Lemongrass are also good treatments. Treatments with vitamin E which helps to replenish the skin."

Replace your pillow slip with satin
Start sleeping on a satin pillowcase instead of a cotton one because the cotton pillowcase will absorb the natural oils and moisture right out of your hair. The friction between your hair and cotton pillowcase can lead to breakage. Your edges need those oils and moisture when they are thinning, so pamper them with the right bed time treatments.

Wash your hair frequently
All those heaps upon heaps of chemicals, oils, treatments and hair products all build-up on your hair so washing it regularly will keep your hair clean. Consider washing your hair once a week or every other week with a sulphate free shampoo and flee any products that contain sodium lauryl sulphate. Make sure you deep condition as well.

THE BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO WALKING IN HEELS

Hello Sweet Sweet!!

how to walk in high heels for beginners

I have often heard comments about my high heel shoes like; “Babe this heel long ooo or how do you even walk on those or I wish I could walk on heels”. I am not saying am perfect or something when it comes to heels. Can’t remember taking any training on how to walk on heels sha. But if you are one of those that love heels just like me but unfortunately, can’t walk in them, then here are a few tips on how to walk gracefully in heels.

Train yourself

If you’ve never worn heels on a regular basis, a pair of 6″ stilettos probably isn’t the best place to start. Instead, go for something mid-height, and, once you’re used to walking in those, start to gradually work your way up. The thinner the heel, the harder it’ll be to balance on it, so when you’re still getting used to walking in high heels, choose thicker, block heels for stability. Also consider starting with platforms as they make the heels feel lower than it actually is

Walk heel to toe
Put your heel down first, followed by your toe which transfers impact to the leg instead of the ball of the foot. This will also make your walk look more natural. High heels don’t just make you walk taller, they also force you to walk differently.

Take small steps
Wearing heels makes your stride shorter than normal, so you’ll have to take an increased number of small steps to go the same distance. You might be tempted to rush to cover up right? But nah nah that na serious disaster.  Like it or not, you can’t really stride or run in heels (well, you can, and once you know how to walk in high heels, running in them won’t seem like a big deal, but you’re probably going to want to wait until you’ve mastered the “walking” bit first!),

Lean slightly back
You may find you want to walk faster than your heels will allow, and end up craning your neck forward to compensate. This ends up looking strange, so allow yourself to lean just the slightest bit back when walking in heels, as this will counteract your inclination to lean forward.

Walk in straight line
When you want to draw a straight line, you’ll get better results if you look at your end point as you draw, rather than looking at your pencil as it moves. Visualise a straight line going toward your end point, rather than looking down at your heels as you walk.

Make sure your shoes fit
If your shoes are ill fitting, it makes the difficult task of walking naturally in heels almost impossible. If your heels are too big, use shoe pads for a better fit. Fit is particularly important with heels, because if you’re struggling just to keep them on your feet (or wincing in pain every time your foot hits the ground), you’ll find it practically impossible to walk in them.

 Relax

A lot of women have a tendency to hold themselves very stiffly when they’re learning how to walk in high heels. Try to relax: not only will it look more natural, it’ll also be more comfortable, and make you less likely to hurt yourself.

Avoid very smooth soles
One of the biggest issues people have when learning how to walk in high heels is slippage: a lot of high heeled shoes have soles which are completely smooth, and don’t offer any grip at all, and that makes them even harder to walk in than would otherwise be the case. We know all about friction right????
